Alloy 600 Cracking Mitigation & Repair

Aquilex WSI Nuclear Services has an industry-leading track record in pressurized repairs. As repair applications move beyond the pressurizer and into larger nozzles, Aquilex is proceeding with a three-pronged approach to substantially reduce weld overlay repair time impact:

• Optimized thickness weld overlay designs to potentially reduce full structural overlay thicknesses by 50% or more in a typical hot let nozzle application.
• Increased deposition rate of each weld arc while preserving its unmatched quality record, using the proven power ration approach to weld process optimization.
• Integrated tool sets specifically designed to perform welding, contouring and inspection within the access confines associated with reactor vessel nozzles to allow other refueling activities to proceed during weld overlay.

Valves

Aquilex WSI Nuclear Services offers customized services and turnkey capability for in situ refurbishment of critical valves, as well as safety-related valves. Advanced tooling systems, with remote operating and vision systems, are designed to provide a common setup for precision welding and machining. The result is first time repair quality and no iterative steps to achieve specified repair performance, including plant safety, dose and schedule adherence.

Heat Exchangers

Aquilex WSI Nuclear Services is a specialist in the repair of heat exchanger tubes and components, as well as complete installation of the heat exchanger when required.

Reactor Pressure Vessel

Given the radiological conditions of RPV components, all associated maintenance activities are a high risk to personnel safety and schedule. Aquilex WSI Nuclear Services manages this risk by relying on superior project planning and the use of proven engineered solutions, followed by field implementation using highly skilled and experienced craft specialists operating sophisticated, remotely controlled tooling and equipment systems.

Pressurizer

This critical control component has penetrations accommodating the electric heaters, surge and relief functions, and a large number of instrumentation penetrations for monitoring temperature and pressure and other critical operating parameters. Many of these nozzles and penetrations are made of or welded with Alloy 600 or its associated weld filler material (182 or 82) and thus are susceptible to PWSCC. Aquilex has led industry efforts in Pressurizer and Alloy 600 repairs. Our experience includes the completion of more pressurizer weld overlay and pressurizer heater repairs than all our competition combined.

Piping

Aquilex WSI Nuclear Services can install, replace or repair piping affected by flow-accelerated corrosion. When compared to a typical general contractor’s support, our piping construction and replacement support performance are differentiated by our workforce’s pace-setting schedule, reliability and our application of machine welding with its consistent result of first-time quality. Aquilex offers, in most cases, vastly superior economic alternatives to piping replacement with repairs that involve the machine application of corrosion-resistant overlays to the pipe ID or compressive stress-inducing (crack-arresting) ambient temperature temper bead overlays to the pipe OD.

Spent Fuel – Canister Sealing

Fuel storage options are necessary to keep plants from exceeding their fuel-pool maximum inventory, thus facing a potential shutdown. Aquilex WSI Nuclear Services has taken the lead in applying field operational expertise and advanced tooling technologies to support operators interested in dry cask spent fuel storage option.
